Nigel has been a mathematics teacher at Moore House Care and Education since 2015, having previously taught in the mainstream sector at Balfron High School, Stirling. Nigel taught in Boness Academy and Lornshill Academy, Alloa whilst studying at the University of Stirling, graduating with Honours in Mathematics and Professional Education in 2014.
Nigel made the move across sectors for one simple reason – to change the life of Scotland’s young people. He is a firm believer that every young person’s dreams and ambitions can be achieved provided they are given the opportunity and commitment they deserve. Nigel is extremely dedicated to his role as not only a mathematics teacher, but also as a leader of learning. Nigel shows particular importance to his key teacher roles, providing stability and comfort for our young people, as well as building a pathway to success and a positive future.
Nigel has completed professional led Trauma, Attachment and Resilience training, and believes that continuous professional development is fundamental to enhancing his practice. Recently Nigel has begun to establish numeracy partnerships with fellow West Lothian SEBN schools and is fully trained as the school’s WIAT-II assessment co-ordinator for assessing young people’s literacy and numeracy abilities upon referral.
