Senior Manager for Care Services
Gary joined Moore house in February 2016 to oversee the opening of a new two bedded home which has the flexibility to meet the needs of young people effectively. Prior to this he worked as a unit manager with Falkirk Council for five years in a five bedded children’s home where he helped develop a single bedroom flat to help young people make the transition from residential care to independent living.
Gary was the council representative at a SWS residential group and has experience of making good links with community policing and also elected members in order to ensure young people had positive community experiences.
Prior to this he spent five years with St Philip’s secure unit being part of the initial staff group who helped develop the service and help it become an established and respected service. During this time he helped embed Solution Focussed Brief Therapy as a working model for the staff team and was also trained as a Young Minds trainer to raise awareness of the mental health needs of looked after young people and how we can best meet these.
Before moving to St Philip’s Gary worked with Barnardos in a number of services for sixteen years in a number of projects, gaining experience and knowledge of young people with learning and/or physical disabilities, helping develop innovative services to better support young people on the autistic spectrum and embedding effective augmentative communication solutions.
Gary has spent his career working with young people ho have experienced high levels of trauma and is experienced in developing services to meet the needs of the young people and help them to develop self esteem and belief in their own potential.
He is enthusiastic in helping organisations developing innovative practice to support young people overcome the obstacles they experience in residential care.
