Education Services
Structure
There are two main aims of the education unit at Moore
House. First is to provide support and encouragement to young people
who have difficulty in engaging with education to reach their maximum
academic potential. Second is to help young people to develop the
personal and social skills and attitudes which will enable them
to play a full part in life after they leave school.
All young people work on a programme appropriate to
their age and stage of development: the 5-14 curriculum, Standard
Grade programmes and Access/Intermediate courses. We offer a comprehensive
personal and social development programme including work experience
placements. Maximum class size is six.
Education is provided on campus in a large, single
storey school block which comprises ten classrooms, a library and
a quiet/time out room and a Games Hall.
The education provision within the school is managed
by the Head of Education Services, supported by a Principal Teacher
and Senior Teacher. All teaching staff are GTC registered and have
substantial experience in providing a high standard of education
for young people in the care of the school. Staff are engaged in
continuing professional development to allow them to enhance their
existing skills. This includes training in CALM, an approach to
de-escalating challenging behaviour.
The school is registered with and inspected by
HMIe.
