Curriculum

The curriculum at all stages follows national guidelines. The 5-14 curriculum is delivered by primary trained staff and provides a general range of subjects for young people from P5 to S2. This is a preparation for Standard Grade, Access and Intermediate courses which are delivered by specialist teachers. Subjects offered are: English, Maths, Science, Computing, PE, Home Economics, and Art. The expectation is that all pupils finishing their education at Moore House will leave with certification in the above subjects.

A comprehensive PSE programme is provided for all young people, and from session 2005 will be offered at Access level. Careers and Enterprise programmes are offered across all year groups.

In addition to the above, the Religious and Moral Education course follows national guidelines. Topics of study include Christianity and other major world religions, as well as Personal Search and Relationships and Moral Values.

Social Studies and German are available to some pupils as additional subjects. To ensure continued development of the curriculum, school staff meet regularly to review and monitor progress.

On admission to the school, each young person has a six week initial assessment which leads to an individual education plan.
