   Residential Services:   Culbrae

Culbrae is a three bedroomed house set in idyllic, tranquil grounds in the beautiful surroundings of rural Perthshire.  The Service specialises in providing care and support to young people with a variety of needs and has recently been refurbished and provide a warm, nurturing and comfortable family environment for young people. Culbrae can accommodate three young people aged between 11 and 18, either male or female.

Moore House Group (MHG) offer nurturing and therapeutic care environments; conducive to developing the safe, trusting and loving relationships essential in promoting young people’s wellbeing. Flexible placement packages include the option for young people to attend our residential school, and/or access mainstream education resources where appropriate. We offer a range of services for young people in recognition of the fact that, for many, their life experiences include attachment and/or trauma related difficulties that impact upon their capacity to positively engage in learning.

Culbrae is within walking distance of our school, which enables young people to be supported in both care only and care and education options. The young people are supported  by our multidisciplinary teams, who have a range of skills and experience to provide tailored support and intervention.

The ethos of MHG is to provide children and young people with a happy, friendly and stimulating living and learning environment where they feel safe, secure and valued.  We promote a varied and balanced curriculum to support each young person’s educational, physical and social-emotional development. Our approach is firmly based on building positive, nurturing relationships with young people through the principles of playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy (PACE).  We provide comprehensive training and support to all our staff in Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP). The staff team have been recruited and trained to work effectively with young people who have a range of support needs.

Access to our Psychological Services and Intervention (PSI) Team is included in the placement fee for residential young people.  The comprehensive initial 12 week assessment is used to inform the care planning process during placement. PSI also provide a range of tailored intervention programmes designed to reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors for young people and their families. Family activity programmes, engagement and effective communication with parents are a priority.

We work in partnership with a range of external agencies to provide tailored packages that meet the needs of each young person.  The education team provides a range of core and vocational subjects up to National 5 Level, with small classes ensuring pupils receive a high level of support from teachers, classroom assistants and care staff.  Our 24 hour curriculum goes beyond term-time with a programme of learning and activities provided after school hours and during holiday periods. This approach helps foster new experiences and allows for continuity of relationships with peers and other staff.  To encourage our young people to participate in events and activities and make friends in the local community, we also maintain positive links with local services including youth clubs, leisure facilities and specialist support groups.
