Claire has been a Home Economics teacher at Moore House since August 2015. She has previously worked in mainstream Secondary schools as a Geography teacher at various different schools across Scotland. In 2013 she completed her MSc in Outdoor Education at Moray House in Edinburgh. She believes the power of outdoor education can provide additional learning opportunities for young people to develop their personal, social and emotional skills. As well as teaching, Claire has worked in Canada and America at various camps teaching outdoor skills and leading canoeing expeditions over the past 10 years. Claire also works part time in a mainstream Secondary school teaching Geography up to Higher level.
Claire likes the variety of teaching she experiences from working in both sectors, but really enjoys working closely with the young people at Moore House in much smaller groups to have some real impact on their learning. In the kitchen there are only 3-4 pupils at any time and this allows her to focus on teaching cooking skills one to one and allowing pupils to achieve success by cooking various recipes depending on their ability level. Overall, she loves providing opportunities to allow young people from diverse backgrounds develop skills for life and learning in order to become successful independent cooks for their future.
