Case Study 1
M was admitted to the school in August 2000 when she
was 14 years old. Her local authority had serious concerns and was
pessimistic about her future. Her school attendance had been affected
by her regular use of solvents and her mother's belief that she
had a range of medical conditions, only a fraction of which were
accurate.
M achieved 4 Standard Grades in June 2002, and continued
residing at Moore House whilst she attended college and various
work placements. M left to go to the first throughcare project in
Livingston in February 2003, when she was 17. Her placement in throughcare
enabled her to work through issues of alcohol and substance misuse
in a safe and supportive environment.
M was the first young person to leave our throughcare
project, in November 2004, shortly before her 19th birthday. She
moved into her own tenancy, and continues to receive aftercare support.
M is currently attending college, pursuing her interest in psychology.
