Residential Care
One of our units, the Coach House, provides residential
care for up to twelve young people in single bedroom accommodation.
With both male and female residents, the focus in this unit is on
assisting young people to establish appropriate peer group relationships,
encouraging them to participate in a variety of activities and issue-based
groups and to address the individual issues in their lives. Linking
to the positive behaviour system in operation in the education unit,
the Coach House rewards positive behaviour with increased levels
of trust and access to solo time activities and addresses negative
behaviour through clearly defined consequences.
A major focus of work in the Coach House is developing
within young people a sense of self confidence, personal responsibility,
teamwork and leadership through a range of outdoor activities.
Close Support
Two of our units, the Gate House and the Main House,
provide close support to young people who require smaller group
living, more intensive programmes and a higher level of support
and supervision.
Each unit accommodates up to eight young people in single and twin
bedrooms. The units provide individually structured care packages
which address the specific needs of the individual child. The staff
teams provide a therapeutic experience for young people in which
they are encouraged to address the difficulties they face. The focus
is on individual work which encourages young people to engage in
the change process.
Supported by a positive behaviour system which links
to the system in place in the education unit, clear messages are
given to young people about what is acceptable behaviour and what
is not.
Day Provision
The Day Unit provides a separate base for up to 12
pupils who commute by taxi from all over Central Scotland. Managed
by the Head of Education Services, the unit is staffed by two Child
Care Workers and a Senior. The unit comprises a lounge, kitchen/dining
room and access to games facilities.
Young people are referred to the Day Unit for a variety
of reasons. They may have been resident at the school and progressed
to day status, or have a supportive home base but require additional
support for their social and emotional needs in a specialist education
setting. Each young person has a key team responsible for providing
them with an individualised care and education programme.
