Principal Teacher and Science Teacher
Alastair has been associated with Moore House for nearly 19 years. Although a fully qualified secondary school teacher Alastair actually started as a relief care worker in our Coach House provision before joining the school as the science teacher. Alastair has always maintained that his time in the Coach House was invaluable as it gave him an insight into the role and responsibility of the care staff within the organisation and also allowed him to forge more extensive relationships with the young people. This experience helped in his transition to the school and set the bench mark for the type of relationship that Alastair has always tried to establish and maintain with our young people – the ‘caring teacher’.
Alastair loves to teach the young people of Moore House about the Universe and the things around them and has now helped over 300 of them to achieve qualifications in the sciences, but he maintains that, along with giving the young people educational qualifications, it’s as much about helping them gain confidence in themselves and preparing them to take their place in the wider world. The old African proverb describes how it takes a whole village to raise a child and along with his fellow teachers, the care staff and everyone else within the special community that makes up Moore House Care and Education Alastair is pleased that he has been allowed to make his own small contribution to the lives of these young people and so help build and sustain both their individual future’s and the future of the our nation.
