Senior Manager for Education

Prior to my career in the teaching profession I worked in professional football with St. Mirren Football Club and Rangers Football Club.   My degree and specialism was in Sports Injuries and Sports Science, working with youth teams and first team players.  On completion of my BSc in Sports Injuries I studied Sports Science with the English FA in conjunction with Loughbourgh University.  My remit at St Mirren football Club was working mainly with youth and first team players on injury prevention, rehabilitation and fitness testing and assessment.

During my time at Rangers Football Club I delivered a variety of community projects and coached within player development centres across Scotland.  Latterly I was involved with SEBN schools in Glasgow City Council, Greenview and Cartvale, and I delivered Higher PE and Standard Grade PE lessons within various High Schools.  This is where I become interested in a career in teaching and in particular in SEBN schools.  I studied PGCE in Physical Education, working in Irvine Royal Academy and then St Andrews High School.  In 2006 I spent a years’ probation in Johnstone High School.

In 2007 I started employment at Kibble Education and Care Centre, initially delivering PE and Science across the BGE and Senior Phases.   I moved to the Open Campus to teach PE,  I introduced Higher PE, Sports Leadership and Duke of Edinburgh to the curriculum.  In 2012 I became Principal Teacher, overseeing PE, HE, Science and Outdoor Education.  In my role as Principal Teacher I have developed staff training in Mental Health and Health and Wellbeing, something I believe is vital in Education.    Since 2011 I have delivered Safe Crisis Management to Care and Education staff alike, again I believe strongly and passionately in the principles and values of SCM training when dealing with young people in crisis.

I am passionate about children in Care, working closely with all stake holders to ensure positive experiences and destinations. While studying a Masters in Strength & Conditioning at St Marys University I researched the link between physical fitness and improving motor skills to increase attainment within the classroom, and hope to continue this research and apply findings within SEBN schools.  Closing the attainment gap and creating positive learning experiences are at the forefront of my practice.
